Max, a stand-up comedian in his mid-forties, lives separated from his wife and his autistic eleven-year-old son Ezra back at his father's house, and is just as awkward in his performances as he is with his erratic son. When Ezra is to be reassigned to a special school, Max snaps and sets off on a road trip across the USA with his son. In LA, an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel beckons, but with the authorities, his ex-wife and father on his tail and his unpredictable offspring in the back seat, it's a long way to get there.
